Salik, meaning open or clear, is Dubai’s road toll system that operates without toll-booths or barriers. Introduced on Dubai roads in 2007 by RTA as a free-flowing system without the need to stop your car and pay manually, its all automated so you just drive stratight through. Currently there are a total of 8 toll gates around the emirate of Dubai
So How does it work?
Each time you drive through a Salik toll gate, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology detects your vehicle and scans your Salik sticker tag. The toll of AED 4 is automatically deducted from your prepaid toll account.

Where are the Salik gates located?
There are two types of Salik violations:
Unregistered Plate (URP violations)
If you drive through a Salik toll gate without a registered Salik tag on your vehicle and you don’t purchase and register a tag within 10 working days from the date of the first trip, you’ll get a violations of:
Insufficient Funds (ISF violations)
If you drive through a Salik toll gate with insufficient funds in your Salik account to cover the toll fee and you don’t recharge your account within 5 working days from the date and the time of the trip, you will get a AED 50 violations.
Note: There is a maximum of one violation per day per vehicle, if you travel through multiple times during the day.
